Well it seems that we have more time to prepare than I anticipated. We apparently will not be locked out of our studios until 4:30 PM on Monday, even though the timetable says that Portfolios are due at 9:30 AM on Monday. No worries, I’d rather have more time than less.
I have finished my work and set up as best I can, so I feel there is nothing more I can do in the studio. We have Vivas (short for viva voce, Latin for oral examination) scheduled for Tuesday (while we are locked out of our studios) and we have received very little information on those yet, so I am not certain what to expect. I understand that it will be one-on-one with Dr. Kristin Mojsiewicz, a tutor whom I have yet to actually meet, but I hear she is “good”. I am still uncertain as to the format and the direction it will take. I expect to spend the weekend revising (studying) books related to the themes with which I am working.
I have read a number of books over this semester, most recently The Lives of Animals by J. M. Coetzee, which, although it ostensibly deals with animals from a vegetarian viewpoint, is also very relevant to the way we view animals in general. I will probably also try to review some of the Steve Baker books and essays I read earlier this year, since his views on animals are very much related, and John Berger’s Why Look at Animals.
Anyway, here’s how my studio and work are set up:
